Godaya Goes Wewe-Nanna

It takes me ten minutes to get to the closest beach, and one minute to get to the closest Wewa (Lake, for those of you who don’t know) from where I live. Despite this, I haven’t gone sea bathing or Wewe-Nanna in a LONG time.

It’s the eternal fear that my parents have, of me being washed off to sea (This fear is not a result of the 2004 Tsunami, but is way older than that), and the fear that I might either drown or catch some incurable disease from the Wewa.

A note about the Wewa. The name of my village, Mahawewa, meaning great-lake, comes from (What used to be) the lake. It looks a bit like a playground now, with a thick layer of some water plant or the other covering most of it. And most of the bathing spots are occupied during sane times, with Diyaredi clad womenfolk, and a gentleman does not bathe where Diyaredi clad womenfolk are bathing.

So a combination of all these factors has kept me away from bathing in the Sea, and the Wewa. This is not to say that I don’t go to the Sea, I do quite a bit. But that is limited to either photographing the sunset, looking at distant boats, sending Ahas Kooru or collecting seashells and comparing them to women. Ever notice the similarities? The perfect ones are too small, or someone manages to pick it up the moment you spot it, and you’re left with rest. Nonetheless, you come home clutching them in your fist, loving each moment of it.

Coming back to large bodies of water, I had the rare privilege of going Wewe Nanna last weekend. Met up with two of my friends for a chat, and while we were casually talking, the topic of the lakes and seashells came up. It was one of those spur of the moment things, and we decided to go for it. It was around six-thirty when we got there, and it was shape eke getting dark, but it was all worth it.

Getting into the dark and warm waters, watching the sun set, getting your blood sucked out by mosquitoes above the water line, getting pieces of you bitten off by fish below the waterline, and talking of memories past. No soap, no towel to dry yourself, no change of clothes till you get home. It was awesome.

And the best thing is, the perfectly arranged beaches of the five star resorts, the supposedly natural pools of eco-lodges, or the acres of immaculately maintained swimming pools? They can’t even come close.

Godaya Goes Uni-Flow...

Drove to the capital after sometime. First time after the Uni-Flow traffic system was introduced. Godaya's expereinces of Uni-Flow in other countries teaches him that this is actually Bageta Uni-Flow.

It was a really good experience blasting down Thurstan Road in the wrong(?) side of the road. But other than the fact that it gives people like Godaya a rush, how effective is Uni-Flow?

The underlying theory behind Uni-Flow is fluid dynamics. If the flow of fluids only in one direction, there is minimal opposing friction, which means that the fluids can flow smoother, and faster. Also note that Godaya has a C for A/L Physics.

Let's give these guys a chance to implement Uni-Flow. And I know that it will work out properly. Just needs some time for us to get used to it...

Godaya Comes to Town

So, come to Negombo with Thaththa, get in the bus. Sleep till I get to Peliyagoda, wake up. Marvel at the two Pittu Bambu, which I see every day (and about which I marvel, every single day), get off at Pettah, go to Sham Bakers, buy two of those adorable Seeni Sambola Paan, which look like mini loaves of bread, go near a trisaw, haggle, get the fare down from 400 to 250, get in, stop on the way, Buy the Daily Mirror, eat the Seeni Sambola Paan, read the Daily Mirror, marvel and drool over the new S-Class near Odel, get off at the BMICH gate cos they still don't let trishaws in, walk, come into office, room locked, go to Director's birthday party, eat cake, drool of strawberries, ask Nishani to get me strawberry, eat strawberry, lick fingers, drink yucky lemonade from Yapa's cup, stand up, eat lat strawberry, come into office.

Of Horoscopes, Futures and Parents

My mom went to a horoscope place today. Yes, to check mine.

I apparently will not study for the next couple of years, will have a lot of girlfriends till I get married... I love food (duh!)... I will fall into bad company, la di da di da... If I go abroad during 2008 to work, I will "succeed". Otherwise, I'll float around till 2012... Lotsa small trips overseas (Hope they won't be long-haul flights!)...

So, basically what he has told Amma is, unless I get this specific stone in a silver ring to touch my body for the next half-a decade or so, the gods and the planets(?) will try their best to fuck my life up... Seems pretty interesting...

I mean, I don't believe in god, and I certainly don't believe that a mass of rock a couple of million miles away (without any proven existence of life on them) is trying to mess with my life... After all, there are six billion of us human on this earth, and who the heck has time to mess with six lives, leave six billion?

But the fact of the matter would be, I would wear the damned ring to make Amma's state of mind better, still drink, still (attempt) to study, and will carry on with my rollercoaster existance... And apparently, the rocks circling around the sun will try and mess it up...

Bite me!
